Connection

What’s something I care about now that I didn’t five years ago?

Reconnect · Sample prompt
One card.A whole new conversation.
Familiar can start to feel far away

You still love each other. You miss being curious.

01 / The routine

“What’s for dinner?”

The shopping. The schedules. The same three conversations. There is always something to organise, and less space to simply be together.

02 / The distance

Same sofa. Different screens.

You finally get a quiet evening. Somehow, it disappears into two phones instead of one shared moment.

03 / The possibility

“I didn’t know
that about you.”

A question you have never asked. A laugh you needed. A small reminder that there is still more of each other to discover.

The Reward deck · 25 invitations to come closer

Sometimes love needs
more than words. It needs a moment.

A hand resting in yours. A slow dance in the living room. Two minutes where your only task is to care for each other.

When life becomes a list of things to do, tenderness can become something you keep meaning to get back to. Reward cards make room for it in the middle of the game: small invitations to give your attention, offer affection and notice how your partner wants to be loved today.

The reward is the time you give each other.

01 / One song

Hold me like
we have time.

Choose a song together. Hold each other in a way you both enjoy, and sway until it ends. Let the washing-up wait.

Afterwards, if you like: “What have you missed about us?”

02 / A quiet moment

Let me see you.

Sit facing each other. Share a gentle look for as long as feels comfortable. You can smile, laugh or look away. There is nothing to get right.

Afterwards, if you like: “What would help you feel understood today?”

03 / Two minutes

You can put it down for a moment.

Ask whether your partner would enjoy a gentle hand or shoulder massage. Let them guide the pressure, or choose to simply sit together.

Afterwards, if you like: “Is there something weighing on you that you want me to understand?”

04 / Just between us

Tell me what
you treasure.

Lean closer, if welcome. Tell your partner one small thing about them you appreciate but rarely say aloud. Make it specific. Make it yours.

Afterwards, if you like: “What helps you feel loved by me now?”

A little tenderness. Room for a deeper conversation.

“I’ve been right here. But I haven’t known how to say it.”

Perhaps something has changed. Perhaps one of you feels less confident, misses affection, or worries about being misunderstood. A quiet moment together can be an invitation to ask—and listen. Your partner gets to decide what they share and when. You don’t have to solve everything tonight to begin understanding each other.

Why these small moments matter

The research behind the idea.

Reconnect pairs conversation with opportunities for welcome affection and attentive listening.

Touch deserves attention.

A 2024 meta-analysis found that touch interventions benefited physical and mental wellbeing across the studies reviewed, including reductions in anxiety. Those studies covered many different settings and forms of touch: they do not establish the effects of these particular cards.

Packheiser et al., Nature Human Behaviour (2024) ↗

Feeling understood matters, too.

In two diary studies, sharing personal experiences and perceiving a partner as responsive were linked to greater feelings of intimacy. The lesson we take from this: leave room to speak, and respond with care.

Laurenceau, Barrett & Pietromonaco (1998) ↗ These findings inform the idea; Reconnect itself has not been clinically tested. Touch and eye contact cannot reveal hidden thoughts or guarantee disclosure.

Our story · Our reason

We had both
been divorced.
We couldn’t stop asking why.

We’re Tim and Nina. After our first marriages ended, we spent years looking back. What had changed between us and the people we once imagined growing old with? What had we noticed—and what had we never really talked about?

Through interviews with couples for our blog, we began exploring a question that felt deeply personal: when someone we love changes, do we take that change seriously enough to understand what it means for both of us?

We change as individuals. But we experience those changes as a couple.

The question behind Reconnect
“We ask our partner
to accept who
we’re becoming. Have we asked how it feels for them?”
The conversation we wanted to make space for—on both sides of the relationship.

What changes for one
of us touches both of us.

Our bodies, needs, confidence and desires can change. Menopause is one example: a woman’s experience deserves care and understanding, while her partner may also need space to talk about feeling uncertain or unsure how to help. Neither person should have to navigate it alone.

When sex becomes less frequent or affection feels different, one partner may feel overwhelmed while the other feels unwanted. Expecting someone to simply accept a change can leave its impact unspoken. We wanted to encourage a gentler question: “What are you going through, and how can we find our way through this together?”

Why a game instead of a book?

After those interviews, we considered writing a book. But we worried it might be read once, then left on a shelf. We wanted something couples could return to as their lives—and their relationship—continued to change.

That’s why we created Reconnect. A game to bring those conversations into everyday life. A question can help you notice something new. A playful moment can make room for laughter. A thoughtful reward can become a chance to ask what kind of affection feels welcome today.

The purpose of Reconnect

Notice the change.
Understand its impact.
Find your next step together.

Reconnect invites you to talk about what is changing, listen to how it affects each of you, and explore what you both need. Acceptance doesn’t mean hiding your feelings or giving up your boundaries. It means meeting each other with curiosity and care, and finding ways forward that respect you both.

A few things you might be wondering

Before you pick your first card.

Is this only for couples having problems?

No. Reconnect is for couples who want a playful reason to spend time together and keep discovering each other. It is a card game, not a replacement for professional relationship support.

We have been together for years. Will there be anything new?

That is the invitation: explore who your partner is today. The Connection deck includes prompts about changing goals, interests and wishes, alongside play and rewards.

Do we need a whole evening?

You can start with one card when you have a quiet moment, or settle in and keep drawing. You choose the pace and how much you share.

What if a question or reward feels uncomfortable?

Skip it, adapt it or pass. Every card is an invitation, never an obligation, and either of you can say no without needing a reason.
